Quick Start Guide

Get DuffyBot answering support tickets in your Discord server in under 15 minutes. This guide covers the essentials. For a deeper walkthrough, see the Full Setup Guide.

Before You Start

  • You need Administrator permission in the Discord server where you want to add DuffyBot
  • The bot works in any Discord server, whether it is a gaming community, SaaS product, online course, or anything else

Step 1: Invite DuffyBot

Click the "Add to Discord" button on the DuffyBot homepage or from the dashboard. This will open Discord's authorization page where you select which server to add the bot to.

DuffyBot will request a set of permissions it needs to create ticket channels, manage messages, and read messages in knowledge base channels. Approve all permissions for the bot to work correctly.

Tip: If you accidentally deny a permission, you can fix it later in Discord Server Settings under Roles.

Step 2: Run the Setup Wizard

After adding DuffyBot, log in to the DuffyBot Dashboard with your Discord account. Select your server and you will see the setup wizard.

The wizard walks you through:

1

Set a ticket channel

Pick the Discord channel where the "Open Ticket" button will be posted. This is where users go to create support tickets.
2

Choose staff roles

Select which Discord roles should have access to tickets. Staff members can see all tickets and take over from the AI when needed.
3

Add knowledge base content

Give DuffyBot something to learn from. You can index Discord channels (like an FAQ or announcements channel), scrape a website, import a GitHub repository, or write manual entries.

Step 3: Post the Ticket Panel

Once setup is complete, DuffyBot posts an embed message with an "Open Ticket" button in your chosen channel. Users click this button to create a private support ticket.

When a user opens a ticket, DuffyBot:

  1. Creates a private channel visible only to the user and staff
  2. Reads the user's message and searches your knowledge base for relevant information
  3. Generates a helpful AI response based on what it finds
  4. If the AI is not confident in its answer, it automatically escalates to human staff
Info: The more content you add to your knowledge base, the better DuffyBot's answers will be. Start with your most common support topics.
